The ruling coalition has lost many seats in the ongoing municipal elections in Andhra Pradesh. Since the main opposition YSRCP did not field candidates for the chairman posts in eight municipal corporations in the state, those seats will be unanimous for the ruling coalition.

This situation prevails in Darsi in Prakasam district, Piduguralla and Gurajala Nagara Panchayats in Palnadu district, YSRCP in Kadapa district, Yerraguntla, Maidukuru, Kamalapuram, and Rayachoti and Punganur municipalities in Annamayya district. Only the candidates of the coalition have filed nominations in these areas. After the withdrawal of nominations, all these positions will be officially declared unanimous.

On the other hand, although the YSRCP candidates were officially announced in Gooti in Jammalamadugu and Anantapur districts, they did not file nominations. Although the name of MLC Ramasubba Reddy's wife was finalized for the Jammalamadugu seat, she withdrew from the contest. Some independent candidates filed nominations there, but if they also withdraw, those seats are also likely to be unanimous.

There is a situation where candidates cannot be fielded in areas like Pulivendula, Punganur and Kamalapuram, which are considered YCP strongholds. In the first phase, no nominations were filed on behalf of YCP in more than 388 wards under 87 municipalities and city panchayats as of Sunday night.
