As the heat of the Israeli parliamentary elections reaches its peak, US President Donald Trump has unexpectedly stepped into the fray. Just nine days before the election on October 27, he announced his "full, complete support" for current Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Describing Netanyahu as a "great warrior" and issuing a stern warning to the Israeli people not to elect the wrong leader.

On Sunday, Trump posted a message to the Israeli people on his social media platform 'Truth Social'. "Netanyahu is a strong, brave, smart leader who stood with America against Iran. He has become stronger under pressure. Now, whoever wins the upcoming election other than Netanyahu, the United States will have to fight Iran alone. I am not willing to do that," Trump made it clear. He also warned that if Iran does not change its course, they will soon be done with it.

Netanyahu immediately responded to Trump's support on Twitter. "Thank you for your wonderful support. Let's work together to achieve this goal!" he said.

These are the first national elections in Israel since the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack. The ongoing conflict with Iran for the past seven months has caused serious damage in the Middle East. In this context, the latest polls indicate that no party is likely to get a clear majority in the elections. The prime minister is elected through the formation of coalition governments in Israel.

Trump has not given clarity on his support due to differences of opinion over strategies on Iran in the past. However, he said that he has waited for the right time and that his support will always be for Netanyahu. In the wake of these developments, leaders such as Netanyahu's political opponents Gadi Eisenkot and Naftali Bennett responded and concluded that only Israeli voters will decide who will be the prime minister of Israel. Trump is no stranger to directly interfering in foreign elections. However, it remains to be seen how much of an impact his support will have on the election results this time.
