A key development has taken place in Tamil Nadu politics. The Tamilga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) party led by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay has joined the opposition India Alliance. This was officially announced by Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) president B. Manikam Tagore on Saturday.

The decision was taken at a multi-party meeting held at the TNCC office in Chennai. Ministers Aadhav Arjuna and N. Mary Wilson attended the meeting on behalf of TVK. Describing TVK's inclusion as a 'historic day', Manikam Tagore expressed confidence that the anti-BJP alliance in Tamil Nadu will further strengthen with this development. Along with Congress and TVK, leaders of CPM, CPI, VCK, MDMK and IUML parties participated in this meeting.

Another key decision was also taken in this meeting. The alliance has decided to launch agitations demanding the resignation of Election Commission Chief Gyanesh Kumar over the issue of revision of the voters' list. As part of this, it was decided to hold district-level demonstrations on October 13 and 14 and a massive protest program in Chennai on October 15.

TVK Minister Aadhav Arjuna also confirmed that his party has officially joined the India Alliance. However, no direct announcement has been made on this from party chief and Chief Minister Vijay.
