TTD has reacted strongly to the Karnataka government's guesthouse issue in Tirumala. TTD board member Bhanuprakash Reddy has warned that if the Karnataka government does not withdraw the controversial decision, the guesthouse will be taken over. He alleged that Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar is trying to turn the holy shrine into a commercial hub.
Speaking to the media today, he clarified that the entire Tirumala hill and Saptagiri hills belong to Sri Venkateswara Swamy and no government has the right to allocate it to others. He recalled that in the past, TTD had allocated 7.5 acres of land to the Maharaja of Mysore, and the Karnataka government had built a guesthouse on it.
Recently, the Karnataka cabinet decided to hand over this guesthouse to their state tourism department, and Bhanuprakash Reddy alleged that a former Congress Union Minister was behind this decision. He demanded that the Karnataka government immediately withdraw this decision. They said they would send them notices soon and if they did not respond, TTD would take possession of the guesthouse.
