With only a year to go before the ODI World Cup, Team India captain Shubman Gill wants to stop experimenting. He made it clear that he will enter the ring with the team he wants to play in the World Cup from the next series. He said that due to injuries to players and other tournament schedules, they could not play with a full-fledged team. However, he said that this situation gave a good opportunity to the new players to prove their mettle.
India won the three-match ODI series against West Indies 2-1. However, they lost the final ODI by five wickets. As India sent a full-fledged T20 team to retain the gold in the Asian Games, many key ODI players were left out of the series. Jasprit Bumrah, Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan, Axar Patel, and Washington Sundar participated in the Asian Games. Hardik Pandya, Paridhi Krishna and Harshit Rana were unavailable due to injuries.
This has given opportunities to players like Ruturaj Gaikwad, Naman Dhir, Anshul Kamboj and Aaqib Nabi. Young players like Nitish Kumar Reddy and Gurnur Brar are also being prepared for the World Cup. Gill suggested that they should take advantage of these opportunities and showcase their talents.
However, Gill made it clear that there is no more time for experiments. He said that he intends to enter the fray with the main players who are available from the upcoming New Zealand tour. There will be five ODIs, five T20s and two Tests during that tour. He said that it is necessary to prepare the team that will play in the World Cup from now on.
Gill supported Anshul Kamboj and Aaqib Nabi, who made their debut in the West Indies series. He said that despite conceding runs, both of them will get more opportunities in the future. He believes that Anshul's ability to bat at number eight is crucial for the team.
There is no more time for experiments.. Gill's key statement on the World Cup team!
