Lok Satta Party chief and former IAS officer Dr. Jayaprakash Narayan made a key analysis on the increasing traffic congestion and air pollution in Hyderabad city. He clarified that the root cause of this problem is the lack of a quality public transport system in the city. He said that city dwellers are having to resort to private vehicles in situations where there is no other option, which is a matter of concern. He made these comments in an interview with a YouTube channel.

Jaypee explained that the density of private vehicles is high in Hyderabad compared to many wealthy cities of the world, along with statistics. "In Singapore, there are only 11 private vehicles for every 100 people, in Shanghai 17, and in London and New York 24 to 26. But in Hyderabad, there are 70 vehicles for every 100 people. Is Hyderabad a better city than London and New York? And why so many vehicles? They are buying them without any luck," he commented.

Jaypee analyzed that the shortcomings in the public transport system are the reason for this plight. He said that the lack of availability of metro and buses on time, and the lack of proper 'first and last mile connectivity' to reach from home to station and from station to destination have become the main problems.

Although this is only 20% of the travel distance, it accounts for 40% of the time and 60% of the cost, he explained. "Why all this fuss, many people are going in their own cars or scooters. That is why both traffic and pollution are increasing," said JP. In

Hyderabad, the city residents are facing serious problems such as congestion on main roads in the morning and evening, waiting at signals, and increased travel time. In this context, Jayaprakash Narayana believes that a permanent solution to this problem can be found only by expanding Metro and RTC services and especially improving first and last mile connectivity.
