US President Donald Trump has once again made interesting comments on the Nobel Peace Prize. He believes that he should win the prestigious award, which will be announced for the year 2026, but that the Nobel Committee has little chance of giving it to someone like him. He spoke to reporters in the Oval Office of the White House on Wednesday. Trump's comments assume significance in the context of the Norwegian Nobel Committee announcing the winner tomorrow (Friday).
Trump has been repeatedly saying that he deserves this prestigious award in the world since last year. He said that he has intervened in eight key conflicts since he came to power, and that is why he deserves this prize.
"Now that time has come. Last year, Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado presented me with her Nobel Peace Prize medal. She said that there is no one in history who deserves it more than me. This is an honor that I have indirectly received," Trump recalled.
Although Trump has said that the leaders of Cambodia, Israel, and Pakistan have nominated him, there is no way to confirm it. On the other hand, the countries do not accept his diplomatic role in some of the disputes he claims to have resolved.
This is evidenced by the renewed clashes on the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Cambodia-Thailand border. Despite promising to end the Russia-Ukraine war on the first day of his second term as president, Trump has failed to establish that peace.
Also, the seven-month-long tensions with Iran after the US-Israeli attacks have had a serious impact on the global energy supply. This has caused gas prices to rise in the US ahead of the midterm elections in November. Meanwhile, Pope Leo, the International Criminal Court, and the Special Representative for the Palestinian Territories are in the front row in the race for this year's prize.
The Nobel Prize should be given to me, but not to people like me: Trump
