Team India leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has revealed sensational things about his personal life. He said that after his divorce from his wife and choreographer Dhanashree Verma, he became addicted to alcohol and underwent treatment at a rehabilitation center for 26 days to get rid of it. Chahal said that he has overcome this tough phase and is now much better mentally and physically.

Chahal shared these things in a podcast interview with former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra. "We have been separated since 2022. We got divorced by mutual consent in March 2025. After that, especially after playing county cricket last year, my drinking crossed the limits. That is why I decided to go to a rehab center. I was there for 26 days. Now I know how to keep it under control," Chahal explained.

Chahal said that being in rehab has increased his emotional balance and maturity. He expressed happiness that he has become very fit physically and that he was active like a 30-year-old again in the last IPL season. He said that he started drinking alcohol with friends for fun during the 2011 IPL days, but after the divorce, it became an addiction.

Chahal revealed that he had also faced severe anxiety and panic attacks due to the news coming out about his personal life. He clarified that he realized that this addiction would damage his cricket career, which he loved with all his heart, and that is why he decided to seek treatment with the support of family members and friends. He also recalled what his teammate AB de Villiers had said about the importance of balance in life.
