There was intense tension in Punganur and Rayachoti in Annamaya district. On the first day of nominations for the municipal elections, a clash broke out between YSRCP and TDP workers on Friday. The atmosphere became tense as both sides pelted stones at each other. Vehicles were set on fire in Rayachoti.
Going into details, the incident took place when YSRCP Lok Sabha leader and Rajampet MP PV Mithun Reddy was on his way to file nominations along with party candidates. The YSRCP alleged that TDP workers blocked their convoy and tried to prevent them from going to the nomination center. It said that they attacked vehicles with sticks and iron rods, and several vehicles were damaged in the incident. Some were injured in the clash.
The YSRCP strongly condemned the attack as an attempt on its life. It accused the TDP government of trying to disrupt the election process through violence. It criticized the police present there for acting as spectators when the incident took place and failing to provide protection to its candidates. It
demanded that the State Election Commission immediately respond to the incident. It demanded that cases be registered and arrested against those responsible, and that security be provided to the candidates and that they file nominations peacefully. The political feud in the area in the wake of the local body elections was once again exposed with this clash.
