A key step towards resolving the water dispute between Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu will be taken. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay will visit Vijayawada on the 13th of this month. On this occasion, he will meet Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu and discuss several key issues. Mainly, the deficit in the supply of Krishna water under the Telugu Ganga Project, the dams planned to be built by the AP government, and river interlinking will be discussed in this meeting.
According to the Telugu Ganga Agreement, Andhra Pradesh is supposed to provide 12 TMC of Krishna water to Tamil Nadu at the state border every year. However, only 2.251 TMC of water has been received by October 9 this year. There is a huge difference of 9.749 TMC between the water that should be received as per the agreement and the water received so far. This water shortage issue will become the main topic of discussion in the meeting of the two Chief Ministers. The meeting will be an opportunity to review Tamil Nadu's water needs for the rest of the year and to smooth out the supply.
CM Vijay will also bring to Chandrababu's attention his concerns over the Krishna water share and the Andhra Pradesh government's efforts to build dams on rivers flowing into Tamil Nadu. Tamil Nadu feels that the construction of these dams will have a serious impact on the availability of water to its downstream state. In this context, the proposed dams will also be a key item on the agenda of the talks. In addition, there is a possibility of consultations between the two states on river interlinking.
As part of this visit, CM Vijay is expected to meet Andhra Pradesh Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan and other ministers. The Tamil Nadu government hopes to find a solution to the long-standing water issues through direct talks between the political leaderships of the two states. Analysts believe that the decisions taken after this high-level meeting will clarify the water relations between the two states.
