Vaibhav Suryavanshi is a name that is being heard a lot in Indian cricket these days. Team India T20 captain Shreyas Iyer has heaped praise on this 15-year-old youngster. He said that Vaibhav, who is very calm and silent off the field, turns into a destructive batter when he gets on the field. He said that this is what he finds interesting about him.
"I talk to Vaibhav more about things off the field than about cricket. Everyone talks to him about cricket. We all know how much talent he has. That's why I talk to him to find out what motivates him, apart from his family, lifestyle and cricket," Iyer said.
"He is very silent. But on the field, he plays very destructively. This is the irony in him. It is very fun to talk to Vaibhav. It is also good to have him in the dressing room," Iyer said.
Ever since Rajasthan Royals bought Vaibhav for Rs 1.1 crore in the IPL 2025 auction, there have been huge expectations on him. Vaibhav has impressed with his batting in the IPL as well as for the India Under-19 and 'A' teams. In
international cricket, Vaibhav, who scored 14, 13 and 15 runs in the first three T20Is against England, impressed in the series against Zimbabwe. He was named 'Player of the Series' in that series.
Iyer said that the Indian team currently has experienced openers like Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill. He made it clear that just because Vaibhav is not playing in their place, it should not be taken as a lack of confidence in his talent. ''He is in the 15-member team. The time will definitely come for him. "Vaibhav will dominate Indian cricket that day," Iyer said confidently.
Vaibhav was also a member of the Indian team that won gold at the 2026 Asian Games. India defeated Pakistan by 19 runs in the final to retain the title. Now, the Indian team will look to continue the same momentum in the five-match T20 series against the West Indies.
