Former Indian cricketer and popular commentator Dinesh Karthik has made sensational comments that the international career of senior Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami is almost over. He made it clear that the Indian team has already moved on from Shami and there is no point in bringing him back into the team now.
Mohammed Shami, who last played an international match in 2025, has been away from the team since then due to injuries, fitness issues and sometimes other reasons. Despite his consistent performance in domestic cricket, hopes of his comeback in the national team are gradually fading. Although
India recently won the ODI series against the West Indies 2-1, the Indian bowlers disappointed badly. As our bowlers have become more comfortable on batting-friendly pitches, there has been talk of bringing back the experienced Shami.
Speaking to Cricbuzz, Dinesh Karthik shared his views. "If you ask me if Shami should be brought back into the team, my answer is no. There are already many pacers in the Indian team. The team has moved on beyond Shami. There is no point in going back now. Even though Shami is bowling brilliantly domestically, there is no need to consider him," said Karthik. While
the team currently has pacers like Mohammed Siraj, Arshdeep Singh, and Prasidh Krishna, he reminded that opportunities are being given to young bowlers like Gurnoor Brar, Aqib Nabi, and Anshul Kamboj.
Interestingly, Karthik, who was strict about Shami, reacted differently about seniors Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. He hoped that both of them would continue in the team. He expressed concern that if they retire after next year's World Cup, the future of ODI cricket would become bleak.
"Rohit and Kohli are the biggest stars in world cricket. If these two great players from India, which is at the heart of world cricket, are out, it will definitely have a huge impact on the game," Karthik explained.
