A British farmer has achieved the impossible. He has set a Guinness World Record for the world's heaviest pumpkin. The giant pumpkin, grown by Ian Patton from Hampshire, weighed a whopping 1,295.8 kg. Patton himself broke the record he set last year with this amazing feat.
The pumpkin was displayed at the 'Wargrave Nursery Giant Vegetable Weigh-Off' competition in Berkshire, UK, on October 3. There, its weight was weighed and the 'Great Pumpkin Commonwealth' officials officially confirmed it as a new world record. The fact that officials said it weighed more than a white rhinoceros is a testament to its size. The giant pumpkin was nicknamed 'Bagheera' after the black panther character in 'The Jungle Book'.
This is not the first time Ian Patton has set a record like this. He set the record with a 1,278.8 kg pumpkin called 'Muggle', which he grew with his twin brother Stuart in 2025. Now he has surpassed that record. Moreover, two weeks before this competition, another pumpkin called 'Baloo' was displayed, which weighed 1,258 kg and became the second largest pumpkin at that time.
Ian Patton said that he worked hard to grow 'Bagheera'. He explained that he spent about six hours a day in the garden for about two months, and had to water it heavily every day when the sun was high. He expressed his interest in growing an even bigger pumpkin in the future. The record-breaking pumpkin will be on display for the public at Sunnyfields Farm near Southampton until the end of October.
