The dates for the 12th edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) have been finalized. This mega tournament will be held from March 18 to May 2 next year. Like last year, a total of 8 teams will compete for the title this time too. These dates were finalized at the PSL Governing Council meeting held in London on September 1. The meeting was attended by owners and representatives of 8 franchises. The
8-team format was introduced for the first time in the 11th season of PSL. Also, a player auction was held instead of the draft system. In the final held at the Gaddafi Stadium in May, Peshawar Zalmi defeated Hyderabad Kingsmen to win the title, ending a nine-year wait. A crowd of 32,461 attended the match.
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi reacted to the latest announcement. "PSL 11 showed the world what this league is capable of. It created excitement across the country with record-breaking audiences and broadcasts. PSL 12 will further increase that level. We will deliver another amazing season," he said in a statement.
The schedule announcement has paved the way for key processes like player retention, trade window and auction. However, there is a possibility that the PSL dates will clash with the Indian Premier League (IPL) schedule once again. The tournament features Hyderabad Kingsmen, Islamabad United, Karachi Kings, Lahore Qalandars, Multan Sultans, Peshawar Zalmi, Quetta Gladiators and Rawalpindi teams.
