After the Congress government came to power in Telangana, BRS leader and former minister Harish Rao made sensational allegations that the government-run Tomcom (Telangana Overseas Manpower Company) has become a big racket that is exploiting unemployed youth. He took to social media to accuse them of collecting crores of rupees from more than 70 youths on the pretext of jobs in Germany and duping them.
According to Harish Rao's allegations, Tomcom collected Rs.4.10 lakh each from 70-75 unemployed youths from about 15 districts. He explained that this came to about Rs.4.5 lakh per candidate after including the expenses of examinations, insurance and visa. He expressed his grief that people from poor farming families had pledged the gold of their women in their houses and taken loans to pay this money, and they are still facing great difficulties in paying interest as they have not got jobs even after two years.
Harish Rao said that even after two years, not a single German company has interviewed any of the victims. He was furious that those who had passed the B1 exam in German were now being delayed by saying that they needed to pass the B2. He clarified that although Tomcom advertised that nine of them were ready to go to Germany, not a single one went. He said that it was outrageous to impose a clause that if any dispute arose in the agreement signed with these candidates, it would have to be resolved in a Lucknow court, which is 1,000 kilometers away. He criticized that the RTI was not answered even after the deadline expired to tell how many people have got jobs through Tomcom. While
the victims have been waiting for two years, Harish Rao said that the fact that Labor Minister Vivek Venkataswamy started a new Tomcom batch in June this year and gave job guarantees was an insult to the victims. He questioned what happened to the two lakh jobs and job calendar promised by the Congress government.
Harish Rao demanded that every rupee collected from the companies Tomcom and Fairstreet India, which were involved in this fraud, be returned to the victims. They wanted compensation for the two years they lost, interest burden and mental anguish. He demanded that alternative employment be provided to all the victims, and that a CID or judicial investigation be conducted immediately into this matter and criminal cases be registered against those responsible. He demanded that a white paper be released on the collection of fees and the jobs provided. Harish Rao made it clear in his post that the BRS party will stand by the victims until justice is served.
