In the backdrop of the political heat over the nomination process for local body elections in Andhra Pradesh, the YCP has suffered a setback in the High Court. The top court has rejected the House Motion petition filed by the YCP seeking an extension of the deadline for filing nominations.
Going into details, the High Court bench has clarified that the deadline set for receipt of nominations has already expired, and therefore the petition is ineligible for hearing (nonsense). The court commented on this occasion that they will not normally interfere after the election notification is issued. With this, the YCP's attempt to extend the deadline for nominations failed.
On Friday, on the first day of nominations for the municipal elections, violent clashes broke out between TDP and YCP workers in Punganur. The police have registered cases against Rajampet MP Peddireddy Mithun Reddy and about 70 others in connection with these incidents. In view of law and order, the police have also issued notices to senior leader Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy and MP Mithun Reddy not to enter Punganur town.
Responding to these developments, MP Mithun Reddy made it clear that no matter how many obstacles the ruling party creates, there will be no retreat and that they will fight legally for the rights of the candidates.
