South Korea has clarified that there is no truth in the propaganda that has been going on on social media over the health of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in the past few days. South Korea's National Intelligence Service (NIS) has concluded that all the reports that Kim has fallen into a coma due to a serious illness and died are false. The members of the meeting said that NIS officials revealed this during a secret meeting held
with the parliamentary intelligence committee. Rumors that Kim Jong Un has suffered a severe brain hemorrhage, gone into a coma and finally died have spread rapidly on foreign social media. Some international media outlets have also broadcast the news. However, Yonhap News Agency stated in its article that there is no evidence for this propaganda. Although North Korean state media has not directly responded to the rumors, it has released photos of Kim in order to check them. Kim attended a clothing and footwear exhibition in Pyongyang with his daughter Ju Ae, and published those photos on Tuesday.
The NIS also reported on Kim's health last month. Kim is said to be severely obese, weighing more than 140 kg, which puts him at high risk of heart disease, but he currently has no known health problems. He was said to be moving briskly and even climbed stairs quickly while inspecting a ship. His health is being monitored by a special medical team, it said.
At the same meeting, the NIS also reported on the activities of Kim's sister and senior Workers' Party official Kim Yo Jong. She said she inspected military construction along the South Korean border with Defense Minister Pak Jong Chon. North Korea has been strengthening its borders since April 2024, following Kim's declaration that relations between the two countries are like those of "two enemy countries." In this context, the NIS said that Kim's sister Yo Jong warned that South Korea would resume propaganda loudspeakers and face a "terrible and painful situation.
