Team India's senior pace bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar has made a comeback to the national team after a long time. The selectors have selected him for the T20 series against New Zealand starting from the 22nd of this month. However, there seems to be a strong reason behind this selection.
Keeping in mind the 2027 ODI World Cup to be held in Africa, the selectors do not have full confidence in the current bowling lineup, which is why the experienced Bhuvi has been brought back into the team. If Bhuvneshwar proves his fitness in this series, he has the possibility of becoming a key partner along with Jasprit Bumrah in the World Cup.
Former India player Wasim Jaffer reacted to Bhuvneshwar's selection and made interesting comments. "It's a good decision, albeit late. He deserves this opportunity. He has been consistently performing in IPL and domestic cricket. He is also fit. I still don't understand why he was left out earlier," Jaffer said on his YouTube channel.
Jaffer advised not to neglect experienced players on the grounds of age. "You should look at performance and ignore age. Experience is very important in times of stress. You can't just go with young players. There should be a balance of youth and experience in the team," Jaffer explained.
At the same time, Jaffer also expressed dissatisfaction over not giving consistent opportunities to Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj. "Shami should be included in the Test team. As for ODIs, many new players like Gurnoor Brar, Prasidh Krishna, Nitish Reddy have been tried. But the management does not seem to have faith in them yet. In my opinion, Bumrah, Shami, and Siraj are the best pace trio at the moment. We should think about rebuilding the team only after the World Cup is over. If Shami is neglected now, then perhaps the doors to his career will be closed," Jaffer believes.
Is this why Bhuvi is re-entering? Why aren't Shami and Siraj being played?: Wasim Jaffer
