Indian athletes put on a historic performance at the 2026 Asian Games held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. They won a total of 85 medals, finishing fourth in the medal table. This included 21 gold, 27 silver, and 37 bronze medals. Although they

repeated their previous performance and maintained their fourth rank, this time the victories wrote new history in many sports. This is the second best medal performance for India after the 2023 Hangzhou Games.

Gold after 44 years for women's hockey
The performance of the Indian hockey teams at these games was the main attraction. After a long gap of 44 years, the Indian women's hockey team won the gold medal. On the other hand, the men's team successfully retained their title.

This is the first time that both the men's and women's hockey teams have won gold in the same Asian Games. With the same spirit, the Indian teams have shown their strength in cricket. Both the men's and women's teams swept the gold medals.

New history in archery and golf
Indian athletes also performed wonders in the individual events. 17-year-old archer Kumkum Mohod created history by becoming the first Indian woman to win gold in the individual recurve event. The women's recurve team also won gold, giving a major shock to South Korea, which has dominated the event for decades.

In golf, Pranavi Urs became the first Indian golfer to win gold in the women's individual event. In wrestling, Aman Sehrawat won gold in the men's 57 kg freestyle event, giving India its first gold medal in this category. In shooting, Neeru Dhanda ended a 48-year wait by winning gold in the women's individual trap event. Along with these

victories,
India also opened its account in some new sports. India won its first medals in mixed martial arts (MMA) and soft tennis. It also won its first medals in women's pole vault and some shooting categories, showing the world how India's sports sector is expanding.

Overall, this Asian Games performance will be memorable for India not only in terms of the number of medals won, but also in terms of the significance of the achievements achieved.
