The Mumbai Crime Branch has intensified its investigation into the suicide case of IIT-Bombay student Sahil Vakode. The officers questioned Professor Suryanarayana Dhol, who is facing charges in the case, for about eight hours and recorded his statement. It is learnt that the professor denied all the allegations against him during the interrogation.

It is known that the student's parents had complained to the police that Professor Dholla's harassment was the reason for Sahil's death. In this context, the Crime Branch officials questioned the professor about the circumstances leading to Sahil's death and his behavior with the student. However, he denied all the allegations. It is learnt that IIT-Bombay Director Shirish Kedare is also likely to be called for questioning soon as part of this case.

Sahil was caught using a mobile phone during an exam held on September 18, and Professor Dholla took him aside in the CCTV footage. The IIT-Bombay management revealed that Sahil used ChatGPT to answer the exam. However, it was clarified that no disciplinary action was taken against him over the incident.

On the other hand, Sahil's father Ravindra Vakode alleged that Professor Dulla discriminated against his son. As part of this case, the Crime Branch police have already recorded statements of about 50 people, including Sahil's parents and friends. However, the IIT-Bombay Faculty Forum has come out in support of Professor Suryanarayana Dulla, saying that he is being targeted simply for performing his professional duties.
