Former India leg-spinner Amit Mishra has revealed that Virat Kohli had promised to return to the Indian team, but did not respond to his calls and messages after he regained full fitness. He said that the then coach Anil Kumble had also assured him that he would return to the team after recovering from the injury. However, he said that those promises did not materialize.
Mishra, who participated in the 'Baith and Bowl' podcast with Aakash Chopra, revealed these things. He said that the injury in the T20 match against England in Bengaluru in 2017 had affected his international career. He said that that was his last international match for India.
Mishra said that he spoke to the then coach Anil Kumble after he injured his leg in that match. He recalled that Kumble had assured him that he would return to the team after recovering fully from the injury.
After that, he also said that he contacted the captain Virat Kohli. When asked what to do, Mishra revealed that Kohli had told him that he would return to the team if he regained full fitness and was ready.
He said that after recovering from the injury, he contacted Kohli again and asked him about the status of his comeback. He said that Kohli had said that he would give him information in a week to ten days. However, after a week, two weeks, three weeks, Mishra said that he did not receive any response.
“I called. He did not pick up. I sent a message, but there was no response. I called again. But I did not receive any response. Finally, I left myself. What can we do if there is no one to take us into the team?” Mishra expressed his grief.
Mishra said that some players who were more seriously injured than him and were away from the game for a long time returned to the team as soon as they regained fitness. But he said that this did not happen in his case and he has not received any response so far.
He said he would take it if he achieved fitness.. but then he didn't pick up the phone.. didn't reply to the message: Amit Mishra's sensational comments on Kohli
