Popular actress and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut has approached the Delhi High Court seeking protection of her personality and publicity rights. In her petition, she alleged that her name, photo and voice are being used commercially, especially through fake news and content created with the help of artificial intelligence (AI). The court, which took up the matter on Thursday, issued summons to the respondents.

A bench headed by Justice Vikas Mahajan heard the petition. While hearing the arguments on behalf of Kangana Ranaut, advocate Saket Sikri brought to the notice of the court several web links that are defaming her reputation. The court observed that some of these are in the form of animated videos and memes, which are satirical in nature. However, Kangana's lawyer clarified that they are not pressuring them to remove them at this stage. He explained to the court that some of the respondents have already removed the objectionable content as they have received notices regarding the suit in advance.

After hearing the arguments of both the parties, the court issued summons to the respondents in Kangana's petition and issued notices on the application for interim orders. In the wake of the removal of the names of some respondents from the petition, it directed Kangana's lawyer to file a revised list. Later, the next hearing was adjourned to February 3, 2027.

In recent times, celebrities have been approaching the courts to protect their personality rights. In the past, the Delhi High Court has given positive orders in the case of top actors like Amitabh Bachchan, Anil Kapoor, Rajinikanth, and Jackie Shroff. It has been clarified that their names, voices, and conversations should not be used without permission. In this context, this petition filed by Kangana has gained importance with modern challenges like fake news and AI-generated content.
