The protests launched by the CJP demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar have led to severe tensions in the national capital Delhi. The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) on Sunday alleged that the central government has moved security forces from Naxal-affected and border areas to Delhi to suppress these protests. It strongly criticized that Delhi has been turned into a cantonment.
CJP co-convener Saurav Das, who was released from the court after preventive arrest, spoke to the media. "They are creating an atmosphere of fear in the country to protect one person. Why are they protecting Gyanesh Kumar? Does he know any secrets regarding the 2024 elections or the way elections were held in BJP-ruled states?" Saurav Das asked the government bluntly. He appealed to all the people to participate in these protests and said that their struggle will not stop until the CEC resigns.
"In the last few days, the entire city of Delhi has been turned into a cantonment. To prevent protests, special forces have been flown in from Naxal areas, Bengal and Kashmir, and BSF personnel from the borders. About 30,000 to 40,000 security personnel have been deployed," he alleged.
Saurav Das said that the common people are facing severe difficulties due to these measures taken by the government. "The government is doing this to create opposition among the people against the protesters. They are disturbing the common people by closing metro stations, stopping trains from other states, and forcibly closing shops. But the government is mistaken. The entire country is watching this atrocity against the youth," he said. He suspected that the Delhi Police did not issue any official notices at the time of their arrest, and that their phones might have been seized and hacked to tamper with evidence.
Meanwhile, CJP legal affairs chief Ratna Singh welcomed the Supreme Court's order to restore normal metro and railway services in Delhi and not to disrupt internet connectivity. However, she said it remains to be seen how well the court's orders are implemented on the ground.
