YSRCP chief Jagan has accused Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu of murdering democracy in the ongoing local body elections in Andhra Pradesh. He lamented that the state is running a Ravana-like regime. He expressed his anger over attacks on YSRCP candidates at nomination centers and tearing their nomination papers. He criticized the police for taking actions like house arrest and summoning their party leaders to police stations. He said that they have collected evidence against these irregularities and have approached the State Election Commission (SEC), the Governor and the Supreme Court.

Responding to their petition, Jagan reminded that the Supreme Court had given clear orders to postpone the announcement of the final list of candidates until October 25, provide freedom to file nominations, and provide protection and CCTV recording to the candidates. However, he expressed his concern that there has been no change in the attitude of the government machinery.

Jagan expressed dissatisfaction that his candidates were prevented from filing nominations in 19 municipalities in the state, but the SEC allowed re-nominations in only a limited number of places. He criticized Chandrababu for changing the rules for unilateral victories, which is reminiscent of the Mayajuda in the Mahabharata.
