Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has accused the Congress of trying to bring about a regime change in India on the lines of what happened in Bangladesh. He said that Congress leaders are trying to create anarchy in the country in the name of protecting democracy and their aim is to damage constitutional institutions. At a media conference held in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, on Friday, he lashed out at the Congress and Rahul Gandhi.
Rajnath said that the recent developments in the country are raising many questions. He accused the Congress of trying to create political instability instead of using the energy of the youth for the development of the country. He criticized Congress leaders for openly talking about bringing about a regime change on the lines of Bangladesh. He said that their comments show that the main intention is to weaken democratic institutions.
Anarchy for the sake of power?
Although the Congress says that it is fighting against the Election Commission, the Special Comprehensive Revision (SIR) of the voters' list, and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, Rajnath alleged that the real goal is to seize power. He said that the intention behind using words like 'regime change' is clear. He commented that if the interests of the country are set aside for political selfishness, democratic discussions will become a platform for stubbornness and misinformation instead of facts.
Addressing Rahul Gandhi, he said that no one has the right to create anarchy, attack constitutional institutions, and hinder the development of the country in the name of democracy. He suggested that law and order should be maintained while respecting the laws and that constitutional institutions should not be damaged for political gains. He advised Rahul to respect the verdict of the people and avoid creating political chaos in the name of protecting democracy.
Recalling Indira Gandhi's Emergency,
Rajnath criticized the Congress for damaging democratic and constitutional values ββin the past as well. He mentioned the consequences of the Emergency imposed by Indira Gandhi in 1975, the violence against Sikhs in 1984, and the killings of Kar Sevaks in 1990. He alleged that there has been no change in the Congress's stance since then.
"Indira Gandhi put democracy in jail in 1975. Now Rahul Gandhi is trying to create anarchy with the Constitution in his pocket," Rajnath commented.
He also accused the Congress of using the Election Commission for political purposes. He mentioned the appointment of Election Commissioners in 1993, the allegations made against the then Chief Election Commissioner TN Seshan.. Election Commissioner Naveen Chawla. He said that Chawla had shared confidential information related to the Election Commission with Congress leaders. Rajnath criticized the Congress for not only saving him from being removed, but also later appointing him as the Chief Election Commissioner.
