Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) founder Abhijit Deepke was granted conditional bail by the Mandir Marg Special Executive Magistrate's Court in New Delhi on Saturday. The court, which ordered him to furnish a personal surety of Rs 50,000, paved the way for his release. He will have to abide by the condition of not disturbing the peace for a year under sections 126 and 170 of the BNSS.
He was detained by the Delhi Police on Friday as a precautionary measure ahead of the 'Lehra Do Tiranga' protest march led by the CJP at Connaught Place in Delhi. The police said that a case has been registered against him under sections 126 and 170 of the BNSS.
Before the protest march, more than 20 policemen went to Deepke's residence and served him two notices. A notice has been issued stating that demonstrations and rallies in the vicinity of Connaught Place may lead to stampede and traffic disruptions and that protests should not be held there. In a second notice issued by the Special Executive Magistrate, the police warned that they were violating the bond conditions submitted earlier.
On October 10, Deepke and his associates Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka were also taken into custody by the police as a precautionary measure. They were released on a surety of Rs 50,000 each, promising to remain peaceful for a year. The CJP has decided to hold a 'Lehra Do Tiranga' yatra at Central Park in Connaught Place at 5 pm on Friday. However, as prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the BNSS are in force, the Delhi Police has denied permission for the yatra.
