Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu has responded to the protests by the opposition parties demanding the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC). He said that the opposition parties are behaving excessively and it is not right to drag constitutional institutions into political disputes.

Venkaiah Naidu clarified that the allegations that 13 crore votes were deleted across the country are just a myth. He said that it is not right to demand the resignation of the CEC and the Prime Minister on baseless allegations. "It is not wrong to demand resignation, but it is not right to make personal criticisms of those holding constitutional positions," he said.

He commented that it has become a habit for some parties to claim credit for winning elections and blame EVMs for defeat. He said that the Election Commission is an independent institution and dragging it into the streets is not good for the country's reputation. Venkaiah Naidu said that even though all the members of the Election Commission say they are united, he does not understand why the opposition parties are protesting.
