Reliable sources have informed that the BJP high command has taken a key decision regarding the upcoming Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand assembly elections. It seems that the party has decided to contest the elections under the leadership of current Chief Ministers Yogi Adityanath and Pushkar Singh Dhami in both these states. An official announcement on this is likely to be made by the BJP central leadership soon.

This decision has assumed great political significance. The main opposition Samajwadi Party has been criticizing the lack of coordination and differences between the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Uttar Pradesh and the central leadership in Delhi for some time now. In this context, by deciding to go to the elections under the leadership of Yogi, the BJP high command has sent a strong signal that there are no differences in the party and that they have full faith in the current leadership.

In the 2017 Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, the BJP created a huge stir by winning more than 300 seats out of a total of 403 seats, and Yogi Adityanath took over as the Chief Minister. After that, the BJP retained its power with 255 seats in the 2022 elections. However, the BJP's performance in UP in the recent 2024 Lok Sabha elections was somewhat disappointing. The party, which had won 62 MP seats in 2019, was limited to only 33 seats this time. Although there were discussions about a change in the state leadership after these results, it is noteworthy that the high command leaned towards Yogi.

On the other hand, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami received full support from the party high command. He has been the Chief Minister since 2021 and led the party to victory with 47 seats in the 2022 Assembly elections. In addition to these, the BJP clean swept all five seats in the state for the third time in a row in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. These consecutive victories have further consolidated Dhami's leadership in the party.

With the latest decisions, the BJP high command has put an end to the dilemma over leadership in the run-up to the assembly elections in two key states. By announcing the leadership candidates in advance, the BJP is taking strategic steps to bring clarity within the party ranks and forge ahead in the election campaign.
