Ajit Agarkar's tenure as the chairman of the Indian men's cricket team selection committee has come to an end. As his duties officially ended on Tuesday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Wednesday thanked him for his services to Indian cricket.
The BCCI said on its social media account 'X' that Agarkar's tenure as chairman has witnessed remarkable achievements for the Indian team. "It has been a tenure filled with wonderful moments in Indian cricket. Three ICC trophies (2024, 2026 T20 World Cups, 2025 Champions Trophy), two Asia Cup titles, two consecutive Asian Games gold medals and reaching the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup are some of the memorable ones. Thank you for your commitment and cooperation as chairman. Best wishes for your future journey," the BCCI said. Agarkar's last responsibility was to select the teams for the tour of West Indies.
Former spinner Pragyan Ojha has been appointed as the interim chairman. As per BCCI rules, the most-capped member of the selection committee is the chairman. Ojha, who has played 24 Tests, has been selected for the T20I series against New Zealand in this capacity. The current committee includes Shiv Sundar Das, Ajay Ratra and RP Singh.
The BCCI has invited applications from the West Zone to replace Agarkar. Candidates who have played at least 7 Tests or 30 first-class matches are eligible for the post. The last date for receipt of applications is October 14.
