Tensions have once again flared in the Strait of Hormuz off the coast of Oman. A rocket attack was launched on a Panamanian-flagged merchant ship, the MT on Peace, which was passing through the strait on Tuesday. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs has said that 12 crew members, including 11 Indian sailors, were injured in the incident.

The ship had a total of 19 crew members, of whom 17 were Indians. Immediately after the attack, the injured were shifted to a hospital in the nearby city of Khasab with the help of Omani authorities and are receiving treatment. India strongly condemned the attack on the ship. It thanked the Omani government for its cooperation in transporting the victims to the hospital.

India expressed deep concern over the continued attacks on commercial vessels in the region. It called for an immediate cessation of targeting of civilian infrastructure and commercial vessels and for the smooth flow of navigation and trade in international waterways.
